One of Japan's premier sculpture awards, the Hirakushi Denchu Award was established thirty-one years ago as a memorial to HIRAKUSHI Denchu, one of the leading Japanese wood sculptors of the twentieth century, to recognize up-and-coming sculptors.

On March 13 (Thurs.), the Board of Education at Ibara City in Okayama Prefecture announced that the twenty-first Hirakushi Denchu Award would be presented to YABUUCHI Satoshi, "For his work in colored, wooden sculpture over the past few years."
